Noise Expert conducted noise and vibration measurements and evaluation in an office complex in Scottsdale, Arizona. A free weight gym is located between two offices. The clients in the gym regularly drop heavy weights that cause the floor to vibrate in the adjacent office spaces. One solution for the vibration transfer though a shared concrete floor is to float the gym floor. A floating floor is designed to be suspended on spring like mounts. The sound transmission can be addressed by improving the shared wall systems. There are several ways to improve wall sound transmission, including: seal penetrations, extent the walls to the structure, overlap drywall seams, off-set outlets, add additional layers of drywall, dual studs or staggered studs, resilent channels or resilient clips, or use constrained layer gypsum board.
